DC's Fancy Food Show gets a Taste of Africa (VIDEO)

Exhibitors from 14 African countries, including seven from West Africa (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, The Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali and Nigeria) showcased the continent's culinary offerings at North America's leading specialty foods show, July 10-12, in Washington DC.

The Taste of Africa pavilion at the Fancy Foods Show is a collaboration between the USAID West Africa Trade Hub (managed by CARANA), the Association Africa Agro Export (AAFEX), the Senegalese Export Promotion Agency, the USAID Southern Africa Trade Hub, the South Africa Department of Trade and Industry and the Western Cape Fine Foods Initiative (WAFFI).

The pavilion got buyer attention as well as high-level visits from USTR Assistant Administrator for Africa Florie Liser, and USAID and Department of Commerce representatives. Most of the exhibitors also participated in a 2-day training organized by the Department of Commerce, AAFEX and the West Africa Trade Hub after the show.

Exhibitors also spent time in the media spotlight. Laure Tall of Fruitales of Senegal and Mariam Toure of Sita S.A, a cashew processor in Senegal were interviewed on Voice of America, while Tall and her mother, Marie-Andre Tall showed off their products on Fox 5's morning show.
